Typical Behaviour

A testing time

Behaviour in these years varies a lot as your child works out how they fit into the world and how much control they have over what happens. They'll be testing you to see if you can be consistent and will be hoping you'll create a regular routine so their days are predictable, safe and secure. Stories of the terrible twos may appear to be coming true as your child changes mood, makes immediate demands and throws tantrums, especially in the supermarket or other public places. Some parents find this phase actually begins at three instead of two. "No" may seem like your child's favourite word They'll dislike changes to routine and will strongly resist doing anything they don't want to. This challenging behaviour should ease off as their fourth birthday approaches and you'll find you can sort things out by talking and reasoning. During the toddler and preschool years you should also notice a change in your child's reaction when you leave them. In the early toddler years they'll want you close all the time; by two to three they'll happily go off to play knowing you're around; by three to four they'll only need to check back every so often to see you're there.

Time flies

As you start the preparations for school, it may seem that these first years have gone by in the blink of an eye. Spend time going over photos and mementoes of the first four years of your child's life to remind yourself of the many things you've done and learned together - your child may enjoy doing this with you. This information should be used as a guide only. Children develop at different stages, but if you're concerned you should contact your doctor or health professional.

Behavioural Problems in Children

Any parent knows how annoying and stressful their children's bad behaviour can be, no matter what the circumstances. Fighting with their family, throwing temper tantrums, not doing as they are told and answering back their parents stand for just a small part of behavioural problems in children.

Parenting Issues

Welcome to our newest section, here we hope to be able to provide you with some requested information. As you may notice we do have a poll in place, the results of which are combined with other requests we receive. Information is then collated and passed on to our team of dedicated researches who are working valiantly to bring you all the information you require.

Bedwetting

Don't worry, bedwetting is surprisingly common. Around one in eight children starting primary school today still wet the bed regularly at night. Fortunately there is hope, as bedwetting becomes less common as children get older. Around 5% of 10 year olds (that's one in twenty) and 2% of 12 to 14 year olds (one in fifty) still wet the bed.
